Laurent Fignon

Tour de France 1989
The 1989 Tour de France, which made a stopover in Montpellier, is considered “the craziest” in history. This was due to the sporting rivalry between two contenders for overall victory: Laurent Fignon and Greg Lemond. The dramatic intensity lasted right up to the final stage, an individual time trial on the Champs-Élysées, where the American was declared the winner by just 8 seconds. Laurent Fignon's yellow jersey was worn on stage 19 (Villard-de-Lans - Aix-les-Bains). It was donated by a close friend of Laurent Fignon and Louis Nicollin.
