Jacques Anquetil

Tour de France 1964

In the 1964 Tour de France, Frenchman Georges Groussard wore the yellow jersey for ten days, including the Montpellier stage. The long stage from Toulon (250 km) was won by Belgian Édouard Sels. But this edition was above all marked by the Homeric battle between Jacques Anquetil, the eventual winner, and Raymond Poulidor. At the time, France was split between “pro Anquetil” and “pro Poulidor”.
